Just for your information "Du Riechst So Gut" is German for "You Smell So Good," and is a title from one of Rammstein's songs. Gotta keep the rock n roll theme going. It does somewhat go along with the theory behind the study, which is that men can apparently subconsciously detect when a woman is fertile by smelling her.
Or at least her sweaty t-shirt. A study last year from Florida State University asked undergraduate women to wear t-shirts for three days during two parts of their menstrual cycles. They were forbidden from wearing perfume, using scented soap, smoking or having sex in that time period. A third pair of unworn shirts were given to male students to smell, to use as a control.
After the men were asked to take three large inhalation from the worn t-shirts, saliva samples were taken to test their testosterone levels. Higher testosterone makes men (even) more interested in sex, makes them more aggressive and dominant. All traits that fertile women find attractive.
And yes, the men that smelled the shirts worn by women when they were ovulating had a higher testosterone level after smelling them. Men that smelled shirts from menstruating women or smelled shirts that were brand new and never worn had no effect. The men were also asked to rank how good the shirts smelled. The one worn by the fertile women were found to be the best smelling.
