Here's the good news: If you are a virgin, you may well be smarter than the average person. The bad news: you may also be dumber than the average person. Or just ugly, I don't know.
First, the stats. The average IQ score is between 90 and 110. People whose IQs are in that range are 1.5 to 5 times as likely to have had sex as someone with a score between 120 and 130. Those with a score below 70 are just as unlikely to have had sex as someone with a score of 110. This study was conducted by professors from the University of North Carolin at Chapel Hill. The findings were confirmed by Gene Expression Magazine. Yes, there is such a thing as Gene Expression Magazine.
Less shocking is the fact that 83% biochemistry and math majors at Wellesley College were virgins. While 75% of those aged 19 have lost their virginity, 47% of undergraduates at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology are virgins.
A report from ABC News had similar results, but not completely. Both studies found that women thought creativity to be attractive. (None of the studio art majors at Wellesley College were virgins.)Mark Prokosch, an evolutionary psychologist at Elon University in North Carolina, had male students read news reports, explain why they would be a good date and explain the ramifications of finding life on Mars. The sessions were video recorded and shown to female students, who gave the men grades in terms of sexiness.
The women tended to be good judges of the men's intelligence. While the guys IQ weren't directly seen as sexy, the most intelligent men were very attractive. However, looks still are more important sexually than brains. "Women are still going for the hunk," Prokosch says. "If you had an option to pick from five different people, you would pick the most attractive one."
